Select your disk in the left column (select the disk, not the partition (select the one labeled something weird, not "Macintosh HD")) and follow the instructions to erase the disk. Disk Utility may be under a different menu on some install disks. In the menu bar, select Utilities and select Disk Utility. When it starts, click continue on English. In the General pane, the Capacity, Available (free space), and space Used on your startup disk will be displayed, as seen in the following screen shot: The Get Info window for your startup disk will open. Press the Command-I keyboard combination. In FinderĀ®, select your startup disk's icon.
